"Crash on the Highway"--For Roy Acuff & Xavi

"I heard the crash on the highway
I heard the crash on the way
I heard the crash on the highway
But i didn't hear nobody pray
No dear brother, i heard the crash on the highway
But i didn't hear nobody pray . . .

There was whiskey and blood all run together
Beside their dead bodies where they lay . . .
I heard the crash on the highway--
But i didn't hear nobody pray
No, dear brother, i didn't hear nobody pray"

  1. Hi Carmen

the words are from a famous Roy Acuff song, from the late 1940's--a Country music classic--
in Country music there is a whole genre of car and truck crash songs--in this one, it is implied that the sinful people who die, no one was praying for--
it's for my great friend Xavier Stern--as he likes the song in this genre "Phantom 309" by Red Sovine, covered by Tom Waits, as Xavi told --(i knew the Red Sovine, but not the Tom Waits, which Xavi introduced me to--)
